1.
Does the fingerID reader work with the food service portion of Food
Service Point of Sale Software in
relation to recording who has received a meal?
Universal finger
id system identifies the person then inserts the id into the Food Service Point of Sale Software program as if you
had entered if from a keyboard keypad or from a barcode reader. It is an accessory to the
system. Food Service Point of
2. Is the software to
provide the connectivity to the food service available and included?
All connectivity
software is included, also all enrollment software. EBT provides a complete accessory to
your Food Service Point of Sale
Software system.
3. How are the
fingerid’s initially programmed into the Food Service Point of Sale Software Database and how
much room do these take to store?
After you have all
the kids in Food Service Point of
Sale Software as you want them, you run a quick export of names and numbers,
then an import into the finger id system. Once that is complete, enrollment
of each child can begin. You
look up the child in the database, and then enroll their finger associated to
their record. We suggest you
do this process for both of the student’s index fingers. Total time to enroll would be less
than 1 minute. For 1000 kids you need about 200 megs.
4. What is the average time it takes to recognize the fingerid?
This question is
effected by many factors. If we
break down identifying as measured from the time we have a good finger image to
the time our system has the identity our system performs in less than one
second on an average Pentium IV or better machine. Probably of more importance to you
is; how long will 100 kids be able to move through a line? Once they understand the system
and things, you can expect an average of 5 seconds average for 100 kids. Many sites say they are doing better
then this, but we don't want your expectations to exceed the 5 seconds per
child. Accuracy is
dramatically improved with this system and should factor in to the speed
issues….i.e. no ID badges to find in pockets, purses, or backpacks. No Pin number to remember or miss type,
etc.
5. What happens if some scans twice, can we then have it locked
for 1 recognized scan at each meal, for each student?
We have our finger
id system set up with many options.
One is that as someone places their finger they will be recognized and
told to lift their finger. If
they do not lift their finger the system just waits until they do. This prevents them from being
identified twice or more times.
Many sites have turned off this option once their kids understand the
system. They say that kids may just
not be paying attention and hold up the line not knowing they should have
lifted their finger a few seconds ago. Food Service Point of
6. Do you actually store the students
fingerprint?
We only need to store the measurements
of the fingerprint. We
measure following an algorithm based on the style and uniqueness of the print
image. The next time someone places that same finger on the reader, our same
algorithm can search our database and come up with this unique id.
7. Could someone create a fingerprint
image from what we store?
The answer is no. The system protects from identity
theft. There is no way to generate a fingerprint
from what is stored. Students can
opt out of the system if there is parental concern. They are in total control of their own
identity since they control their finger.
8. How could someone use finger images
against this system?
In our system you
can not be looked up without the finger image device. So if you have someone else's
image you would have to somehow get it into the software to identify the wrong
kid. Since the only way to get an
identity is to have the finger on the device, you have to have the person there
too.
9. Can the image be used in other
systems?
We cannot verify
that or not, it depends on how those systems record their images. Keep in mind you can select not to store
any images, and prevent any of that ability. Keep in mind you cannot regenerate the
fingerprint image from the few measurements we store.

system is being reviewed by people in Information Assurance at
